Department of Clinical Pathology & Biochemistry
 

The Department undertakes routine clinical pathological investigations on blood, urine and stool samples of patients received from various Government and other hospitals in the city of Mumbai. The Department receives biopsy specimen from various hospitals for histopathological diagnosis.Hematological parameters are studied in the department and the department also conducts Annual Medical checkup for organisations such as LIC.The Department conducts epidemiological investigation of infetious diseases of bacterial origin. Bacteriological examination of various clinical material as well as serological testing work is done in the department. Antibacterial testing work of synthetic compound from various colleges as well as individually is undertaken with Department of Clinical Pathology & Biochemistry.

The Department has currently undertaken following research projects:

1. Evaluation of some indigenous plant extracts for possible insecticidal activity against vector of filariasis.
2. Studies on the possible anti-bacterial activity of flowers from some selected plant species.
3. Studies on the malaria vector species of mosquitoes in Mumbai city and evaluation of possible anti-malarial activity of plant extracts of Asteraceae species.
4. Evaluation of possible larvicidal activity of some selected plant extracts against Aedes aegypti.
5. Study of serological parameters in patients suffering from pyrexia of unknown origin.
6 Incidence of Rickettsial infection, its identification and animal experimentation.
7. Study of goitre prevalence, knowledge and awareness about usage of iodized salt in Maharashtra.
8. Incidence of Y. Enterocolitica induced diarrhoea among children in Mumbai city.
