One of the prime functions of the Institute is
to conduct various tests on products submitted
by the Prohibition and Excise Department of the
Government of Maharashtra and Custome Department
of Government of India and on samples such as
drugs,biologicals, food additives, disinfectants,
pesticides, cosmetics, plastics, etc.
The chemical testing unit of the Institute carries
out chemical testing of alcohol, spirits, Indian
Made Foreign Liquors (I.M.F.L.) and Country Liquors
for the Maharashtra State Excise Department.
The Unit also undertakes analysis of Additives
like Bitterrants, Denaturants and coloring agents
used in alcoholic products.
The Food & Drugs Administration, Government
of Maharashtra also approves the Unit for analysis
of drugs and pharmaceutical products. Analysis
carried out as per IP.BP & USP & National
formulary.
The Testing Unit undertakes regulatory testing
for products under the Excise and Prohibition
Rules, Govt. of Maharashtra
Chemical Analysis Unit
The former department of Chemotherapy is being
merged in the Chemical Testing Unit. The unit
is well equipped with various analytical instruments,
viz. Fourier Transform Infra-Red Spectrophotometer
(FT-IR), Gas-Liquid Chromatograph, Counter Current
Chromatograph, and High Performance Liquid Chromatograph
(HPLC). It has recently installed BR-9400 Spinning
Band High Purity Solvent Recycling System.
Training & Research
Activities
Department undertakes the synthesis of new organic
compounds for their possible therapeutic values.
Research projects sponsored by Government bodies
and Private Companies are undertaken.
