The majestic Durbar Hall of the Institute was
decorated specially for felicitation of Prince
of Wales during his visit in 1875 to the then
Governor's House. A commemorative painting of
the Hall during this period depicting a royal
ball still hangs in the Hall.
When the Governor's House was handed over to
Haffkine for starting a Research Institute, the
Hall was used to house the treasure of medical
literature as a library and also an auditorium
for scientific conventions. Many great scientists
like C.V. Raman have delivered scientific orations
here.
In 1990, a separate two storied building was
constructed to accommodate the huge archival collections
of books and journals and since, then the Hall
is exclusively used for holding lectures and training
programmes.
The spacious & regal Hall measures 35m x
10m and has a great height of 7.5m. It has a sitting
capacity of 250 and is well equipped with modern
audiovisual equipment like high quality amplifying
system, overhead projector, slide projector and
a LCD projector.
