Any Library has a distinct entity of its own. It differs from other departments of its Parent Organization w.r.t. to the work carried out, services offered, qualifications, attributes required of the staff, etc.
 
 
 
1.
Helping the students to imbibe in themselves the Information Literacy Culture and lifelong learning skills.
2.
Maintenance of the discipline.
3.
Supervision over the library staff.
4.
Assigning duties to the staff from time to time to run the library smoothly and effectively.
5.
Calling the suppliers and requesting them for sending the books on approval.
6.
Ordering/Receiving Catalogues, Sample Copies of the journals, etc.
7.
Getting the new journals approved from the respective HODs.
8.
Checking the condition, edition, recency, budget availability, etc.
9.
Finalizing the books to be purchased in consultation with the respective HOD and the Library Committee.
10.
Drafting notes on library matters to the respective authorities.
11.
Receiving and scrutinizing the invoices for Books and Periodicals w.r.t. Price, Exchange Rates, Total, etc. and Passing them over to the Accounts.
12.
Calling the Library Committee meeting for the finalization of the Journal Titles to be subscribed for the new year, drafting the minutes of the meeting and submitting the same to the Stores Section for further necessary action.
13.
Receiving and scrutinizing the invoices w.r.t. Price, Exchange Rate, Total, etc.
14.
Receiving the loose issues of Journals.
15.
Sending out Reminders for the non receipt of issues.
16.
Getting the Journals and Torn out books bound from the Binders.
17.
Receiving and checking the Application Forms received from students for admission to library and issue of Reader’s Ticket.
18.
Daily admission of outside visitors after scrutinizing their identity, qualifications and the purpose of visit.
19.
Maintain the statistics of the daily use of library by the scientists and outside students.
20.
Acquainting the new users to the library collection, library procedures, rules and regulations.
21.
Sending the information about library and its services to other institutes.
22.
Drafting the Budget of library.
23.
Preparing the Annual Report of the library.
24.
Any other work as assigned by the Director of the Institute.
25.
Ensuring that the books received on Approval are either returned to the book seller if not approved, or are purchased if approved.
26.
To look after the work of Assistant Librarian in his absence.
27.
To prepare a list of Duplicate and short issues of periodicals and to arrange for participation in the exchange of scientific material with other libraries in India and abroad.
28.
Keeping a vigilance over the students coming inside the library and going out of the library.
29.
Keeping vigilance over the work of staff.
30.
Receiving Telephonic calls, emails, fax, etc. requesting specific information
31.
Assistance in the quest for scientific information.
32.
Ensuring that all the activities in the library are carried out smoothly, efficiently and effectively.
 
 
 
1.
Helping the Chief Librarian in his day to day work.
2.
Classifying the books as per the system of Classification adopted by the library.
3.
Making an entry into the Accession Register for the books purchased newly.
4.
Catalogue the books as per the Catalogue Code adopted by the library.
5.
Making an entry into the Computer Database for the new books and journals received by the library.
6.
Recording each new issue of journal as well as the bound volumes in Kardex.
7.
To arrange for obtaining and returning reading material under Inter Library Loan and keep a record for them.
8.
Collecting and compiling daily statistics of the library use, etc.
9.
Keeping a watch on the books overdue and sending reminders for the books not returned.
10.
Keeping a watch on the non receipt of journals and arrange to send the reminders for them.
11.
Helping the readers in locating books and journals from the library shelves.
12.
Keeping a department wise record of the books purchased and amount spent.
13.
Displaying new books, journals, etc. at prominent places in the library
14.
Preparing the loose issues of Journals for binding.
15.
Making a list of Journals to be sent for binding.
16.
Checking the binding of newly bound journals and to ensure elimination of discrepancies, if any.
17.
Entering bound journals into Accession Register.
18.
Preparing a list of Duplicate and short issues of periodicals and to arrange for participation in the exchange of scientific material with other libraries in India and abroad.
19.
Checking daily whether bound volumes, books, theses, loose journals, etc. are kept at their proper places by the attendants.
20.
Arranging to send the invoices to Accounts Section for remittances.
21.
Any other work assigned by the Chief Librarian from time to time.
22.
Ensuring that all the reading material received by the library is properly entered into the records and is properly organized.
23.
Ensuring that each volume added to the library is properly indexed.
24.
Keeping a vigilance over the students coming inside the library and going out of the library.
25.
Looking after the work of Chief Librarian in his absence.
26.
Receiving Telephonic calls, emails, fax, etc. requesting specific information.
27.
Assistance in the quest for above information.
28.
Sending the required information to the seeker and collecting the charges if any.
 
 
 
1.
Practically supervising the work carried out by the Attendants and guiding them in their day to day work.
2.
Handling the reception counter.
3.
Ensuring that all the visitors write their details properly in the Entry Register
4.
Ensuring that all the outgoing visitors write the out time in the Entry Register
5.
Not to allow visitors to carry inside the library their personal belongings like Bag, Purse, Briefcase, Appron, etc.
6.
Accepting for storage and safeguarding the belongings of the visitors.
7.
Displaying the Circulars, Notices, etc. on the Notice Board.
8.
Removing the old Circulars from the Notice Board.
9.
Maintaining a file of such circulars.
10.
Helping Clerks and Asstt. Librarian in their day to day work
11.
Carrying out any other work assigned by the Librarian or Asstt.Librarian.
12.
Keeping a vigilance over the students coming inside the library and going out of the library.
 
 
 
1.
To issue and receive back the library materials issued out to the students and scientists of institute for a stipulated time.
2.
To issue and receive back the bound journals for a stipulated time.
3.
To send Reminders for the overdue books.
4.
To collect fine for the overdue books
5.
To issue bound journals on Inter library loan basis.
6.
To maintain dead stock registers uptodate
7.
To maintain the record of periodical holdings.
8.
To help readers in finding out the library materials
9.
To send the invoices to Accounts Section and maintain its record.
10.
To check and verify whether any library publication is with any member who is to be relieved for the services of the institute.
11.
Periodically typing the list of journals to be sent for binding.
12.
Any other work assigned by the Chief Librarian or Asstt.Librarian from time to time.
13.
He will not leave the counter without the permission and unless and until a reliever takes his place.
14.
To carry out the duties of Jr. Clerk when he is away or on leave.
15.
To keep a record of Petty Cash and Advance.
16.
To collect charges for the Photo-copying work to be undertaken.
17.
To maintain the record of charges collected and submitting the cash to Accounts Section. Maintaining the record of the cash / cheques submitted to Accounts Section.
18.
Keeping a vigilance over the students coming inside the library and going out of the library.
 
 
 
1.
To do the cleaning and dusting of chairs, tables, cupboards and books kept on the Ground floor.
2.
To shelve back the books, journals, etc. in their appropriate cupboards.
3.
To do the zerox work
4.
Preparing Book Cards, Labels, etc.
5.
Preparing the books for shelving which includes Pasting labels, Inserting Book Cards, etc.
6.
Stamping each book on appropriate pages.
7.
Stamping each issue of periodical on appropriate pages.
8.
Exhibiting new arrivals at the prominent places.
9.
If any book, journal, etc. is found torn or damaged, trying to repair the same with Gum, tape, etc.
10.
In case a book/journal is unrepairable by hands and requires a special binding, marking this book for sending out to the binder along with other books
11.
To help the readers in locating books, journals, etc.
12.
To bring the Tapal from the Main Office
13.
To deliver the Tapal to other departments.
14.
To carry out the jobs assigned by the officials of the department from time to time..
15.
Taking a due permission from the Chief Librarian, before leaving the department for whatsoever reason, during the work timings.
16.
In the absence of other Attendants, carrying out their duties.
17.
To assist the person at the Reception Counter
18.
Keeping a vigilance over the students coming inside the library and going out of the library.
 
 
 
1.
To clean all the floors of the Library Building.
2.
To clean all the toilets in the Library Building.
3.
To clean by wet brush at least one Floor of the Building in a week
4.
To clean glasses of all the windows, partitions, etc.
5.
Keeping a vigilance over the students coming inside the library and going out of the library.
