The Museum in the Historic renowned mansion with Portuguese architecture is a magnificent museum which unveils Life Sciences, Microbiology and the glorious past of this Institute and the inspirational work of Dr. Waldemar Mordecai Haffkine.
It has a short Film “The World of Dr. Haffkine” made by Films Division in 1976.
It also has snake section, with original skeletons of grown up and baby snakes. A wet display of semi non-venomous and venomous snakes can be found here, apart from replica of various crawling and flying insects like mosquitoes, flies, cockroaches and bed bugs. Some original insect collections on display have been collected way back in 1924. The shaded snake skins and instruments used for handling snakes are also displayed. A film explaining milking of snake venom and original snake venom is also available for viewing.
Transparent sculptures of enlarged forms of five most significant microbes namely Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), Rabies Virus, Influenza Virus, E. coli and Bacteriophage are on display.
