Testing activities:

The department offers following tests:

Bacteriological examination of water. (Potability)
 
2.
Microbiological efficiency of all types of water purifying devices.
 
3.
Microbiological testing of the efficacy of disinfectants and disinfectant products.

The department maintains and supplies following reference bacterial cultures for laboratory use

Escherichia coli (ATCC-10148)
 
2.
Salmonella Typhi (NCTC-786)*
 
3.
Shigella flexneri (Clinical isolate)
 
4.
Enterococcus faecalis (ATCC 29212)
 
5.
Pseudomonas aeruginosa (Fisher's immunotype -'IV')
 
6.
Staph. aureus (NCTC-3750)*
 
7.
Staph. aureus (ATCC-6538)
 
8.
Sarcina lutea  
 
9.
Bacillus cereus (ATCC-11778)
 
10.
Bacillus subtilis (ATCC-9732)

The department also maintains and supplies following reference fungal cultures for laboratory use:

Training: The department also imparts training in various aspects of microbiological testing procedures.
