The main aim and objective of the Chemical Testing Unit is to analyze the alcoholic beverages like Indian Made Foreign Liquors ( I.M.F.L) ,Toddy (TPE), Country Liquors etc, also to analyze the Denaturant ( Such as Benzene, Acetone, Crotonaldehyde, Diethyl phthalate, Diethyl ether, Pyridine Base, Toluene, Diethyl amine); Bitterants ( Denatonium Saccharide and Denatonium Benzoate) ; Colorant  ( Crystal Violet & Methylene Blue) those are added for preparing Ordinary Denatured Spirit (O.D.S) and Special Denatured Spirit (S.D.S) sent by State Excise Department of Government of Maharashtra.

Alongwith that, samples of Special Denatured Spirit (S.D.S), Ordinary Denatured Spirit (O.D.S), French polish, Thinner etc. received from State Excise Department of Government of Maharashtra are also analysed.

The Chemical Testing Unit is a FDA approved department.
 Department also conducts a training programme “Workshop on Testing of Alcoholic Beverages” Short term research projects are also been conducted in the department.  The department has started giving research Training to STRIP Students.
