Department of Virology and Immunology
 

The department offers following routine clinical laboratory tests:

1.
ELISA tests for markers (antigens/antibodies) of following viruses in clinical specimen:
*
Hepatitis B, C
*
HIV I and II
*
Dengue virus
*
Leptospira
*
Rabies
 
2.
"Hemagglutination" and "Hemagglutination Inhibition" tests for influenza virus.
 
3.
Virus isolation in-vitro (tissue culture) for Herpes 1 & 2 and Cytomegalovirus.
 
4.
Sellar's staining and Mouse Inoculation Test (MIT) for Rabies virus.
 
5.
Anti-rabies antibody titration in mouse.
   

The department also undertakes following specialized tests:

1.
Testing Virucidal efficiency of water purifying devices on enteric group of viruses viz. Polio I, II and III and Coxsackie B3 and B5.
 
2.
Pharmaco-vigilance studies in human volunteers and post-animal bites patients on antirabies vaccines.
 
3.
Field trials for study of safety, sterility and potency of FMD (Foot and Mouth Disease) vaccine (as per British Pharmacopoeia, Veterinary).
 
4.
Determination of CD4 / CD8 counts in HIV patients.
 
5.
Determination of erythropoietin in anaemic patients.
 
7.
Detection of HIV and Mycobacterium tuberculosis by PCR.
 
8.
Testing of in-vitro anti-HIV and anti-HBV activity of various biological substances.
   
9.
HIV Viral load determination by cell culture (p24 antigen assay method).
