HISTORY OF DISPENSARY:
The current premises of dispensary was used as Department of Blood Bank in past. During the World War II, the need for organizing blood transfusion service was keenly felt and the institute established its own Blood Bank in 1942.The department produced large scale of Dried Plasma from human blood collected from voluntary and paid donors. The department also produced blood grouping sera and other diagnostic reagents necessary for blood work.
After epidemic of typhoid fever in Bombay, “Typhoid scheme” was added in 1948. Under this scheme, medical officer of the unit, on request from the Medical Practitioner attended the patient.
After bifurcation of the institute, Dispensary was established for Haffkine Institute employees. Medical Officer used to give treatment for various diseases and immunization for Haffkine students, staff and their relatives was done in dispensary. Medical reimbursement bills were accessed in dispensary.
CURRENT STATUS:
- Dispensary Conducts Annual Medical Check-up of all employees and students of HITRT.
- Dispensary provides OPD Consultation & treatment for employees and students of HITRT.
- Dispensary provides Pre & Post exposure Vaccinations to H.I.T.R.T. employees and students for:
- a) Pre exposure prophylaxis for Hepatitis-B
b) Pre exposure prophylaxis for Rabies
c) Pre & Post exposure prophylaxis for Tetanus.
d) Pre exposure prophylaxis for Influenza.
- Dispensary provides ANC (Antenatal care) for HITRT employees and their family members.
- For Hypertensive patients Dispensary provides Blood Pressure monitoring, diet counselingas well as treatment for patients is provided.
- For diabetic patients blood sugar monitoring, clinical parameters are checked periodically as well as diet counseling and treatment for the same is provided.
- Dressing of Wounds is done in dispensary.
- Dispensary provides Clinical assistance for Research Projects of various Departments.
- Dispensary conducts pre employment Medical checkup for HITRT employees.
Future plans:
- To set up specialty clinics[e.g.fever clinic, diabetes, Hypertension clinic] Operating Periodically as there are increasing number of patients requiring specialty consultation.
- To provide comprehensive Primary Health Care facility by incorporating other allied branches of medicine like Ayurveda, Yoga, and Homeopathy.
