The Haffkine Library is maintained since the foundation of the Institute and has the oldest and most valuable collection of Books, Research Reports, Scientific Serials, Theses, etc. in the fields of biomedicine and allied subjects with a special reference to communicable diseases. The library caters to the need of all the Biomedical-Biochemical Scientists, Pharmacists, Doctors, Teachers, Students and all other people working in the biomedical and allied fields not only from Mumbai but all other parts of the country. The collection of the library is 27603 back volumes of Scientific Serials, more than 10908 Books, 513 Theses, 4,519 Micro-fiches and 313 CDs/DVDs collection. The library receives about 100 core current scientific serials in the field of Bio-medical sciences published in different corners of the world. Presently, more emphasis is laid on on-line databases and e-text knowledge materials.
The Library has a collection of primary and secondary sources covering the core subjects necessary for research conducted in the institute. The collection in library has been developed over the years with an objective to provide a good reference material consists of Text Books, Reference Books, Print Scientific Serials, Theses, Dissertations, Technical Reports, Microfiches, CDs/DVDs, E-Books, E-Journals, Online Databases, Haffkine Publications etc. to cater to the needs of research activities in the biomedical field that are carried out in the institute. This library has developed a collection of Reference Books such as Dictionaries, Directories, Encyclopaedias, Pharmacopoeias, Handbooks, Annual Reviews, various Abstracting and Indexing sources etc. in select disciplines.
Physical Layout of Collections
The Books are displayed on First and Ground Floor. The Current Scientific Serials are displayed on the Ground Floor in Current Periodical Section. The back volumes of the scientific serials collected by the library are stored on Second and Third Floors of the library.
